Many of us find that getting and staying fit can be very challenging. What is the secret? Here are some tips to get you going…

 

1. Consistency

. There isn’t any training or exercise program that will work if you don’t do it regularly and consistently

2. Have an Effective Exercise Program

  • Strength or weight training- doing this at least twice a week will help tone your body.
  • Cardio or aerobic exercise – Increase the amount of cardio you do, even low to moderate intensity exercise, such as walking, dancing or running will help burn calories
  • Interval training – is an extremely time-efficient and productive way to exercise.

3. Make your Goals Realistic

Break your long term goal down into achievable short term goals. If your aim is to run 10km, gradually add more time and distance to your running, as well as increasing intensity. Set goals to be able to run 3km, then 5km etc

4. The Buddy System

Exercise with a friend or relative and motivate each other.

5. Make Your Plan Fit Your Life

Too busy for the gym? Make your exercise plan fit your lifestyle. You don’t need fancy fitness clothes and gyms to get fit.”

If you’ve got space, try simple bodyweight exercises to target areas such as the legs and butt, and chest and arms lunges, squats and push-ups.

6. Be Happy

Choose something you like – if you hate weights, why not try classes?

7. Watch your Clock

Watch your body clock and figure when you have the most energy – that is the best time for you to train.

8. Call In a Pro

Especially if you’re just getting started, it is worth working with a Personal Trainer, at least until you not only get technique right, but also build your confidence doing an exercise program that will get you the results you want.

Many people try to go it alone and get disheartened because they don’t know what to do and don’t get any results.

9. Get Inspired and Motivated

Fitness requires willpower. Following people who inspire you, whether on social media or in magazines will help keep you motivated.

10. Be Patient

There will be good days and bad days, setbacks and victories, but you just have be patient and not give up. Stick with the program and the results will follow.

Grocery shopping tips for eating healthy

  1. Fresh is best – fresh food should always be first choice,Frozen food as a 2nd choice,Tinned food and ready meals should be considered as a last resort – ideally not at all!
  2. Shop around the outer perimeter of the supermarket as that’s normally where fresh produce is stocked
  3. Plan you meals in advance so you don’t get tempted by takeaways when hungry
  4. Never shop when you’re hungry
  5. Always read the labels to avoid products with large amounts of chemicals, sugar or salt added to them.
